Adding an “N”

How the ecp Audio DSHA-3F became the NITSCH DSHA-3FN.

Adding an “N”

ecp Audio designed the DSHA-3FN through a decade of circuit evolution.

ecp Audio is the brainchild of Doug Savitsky, aka “dsavitsk” on the audio forums. Doug has a PhD in sociology and a JD.  He taught in the economics department at the University of Connecticut.  He has studied mathematics and physics, is a woodworking craftsman, DIY amplifier designer and producer.

For over a decade, Doug has designed his own circuits and made gorgeous wood-adorned amplifiers by himself...or with a partner.

Why did Doug of ecp Audio start designing and building his own amplifiers?

Back then, there were fewer great amplifiers to speak of. He had to roll his own. They turned out great and he made some for sale.

Why is ecp Audio handing over production of the DSHA-3F to NITSCH?

Doug loves thinking about new combinations of circuits, figuring them out, and then molding designs (over years) into great amplifiers. He knows he is onto something when he can listen for hours without fatigue.  Also, his metal finisher and laser engraver closed up shop during the pandemic.

In the case of the DSHA-3F, he made a few runs, the amp became a cult hit, and then he worked with NITSCH to take over the production of this amp.

Why is NITSCH taking over production of the DSHA-3F?

There was no plan for ecp Audio to build another run of this amplifier. It’s a ton of labor and expense to build. But it’s great...the headphone community regards it as one of the very best solid state headphone amplifiers ever made.

NITSCH is looking to find gems like these and make them more available, to create a dream line-up of unique designs that are outstanding and should be made for as long as possible.
